Data controller

Niwa is published by Valentin Beaussart, sole trader, 21 rue Duquesne, 69006 Lyon, France, SIRET 106 888 456 00014. He is the controller of the data described below.

Contact: valentin.beaussart@gmail.com. The app's Support screen also forwards your messages.

Data collected

Your email address, your notification preferences, the location or the town you choose for weather alerts, the contents of your collection (bonsai, care journal, photos, notes) and minimal technical data (device type, error logs).

Purposes and legal bases

This data is used to provide the service, to sync your collection across your devices, to send reminders, to improve the app and to keep accounts secure.

Legal bases: performance of the contract for your use of the app, your consent for notifications and location, and legitimate interest for security and product improvement.

Hosting and processors

The app's data is hosted in the European Union, with our providers. None of it is sold to anyone.

This website, on the other hand, is hosted by Netlify, Inc. in the United States. It collects nothing: no account, no form, no analytics, no cookie. Only the host's access logs may hold your IP address, for the period it applies.

Three recipients, and none of them gets more than it needs:

  • Supabase Inc., European Union: stores your account and your collection.
  • Open-Meteo: receives the coordinates of the place you chose, with every forecast, without any identifier.
  • RevenueCat: validates subscription receipts, and receives your account identifier and the purchase, never the contents of your collection.

No tracking

Niwa carries no advertising, no analytics and no attribution tool. Nothing follows you across other apps or other websites, which is exactly why the app never asks for permission to do so.

Retention

Your account and your collection are kept while your account is active. A bonsai or a photo you remove goes to the Bin and is kept thirty more days, so that you can restore it; you can erase it at once from that screen, image file included. On deletion of the account, everything is erased from the database immediately; backups still holding it are purged within seven days at most. Technical logs, which hold none of your collection's content, are kept twelve months.

Subscription data held by Apple, Google and RevenueCat follows those providers' own retention periods, which are outside our control.

Your rights

Your data is visible and editable in the app, record by record. “Export my data”, from your profile, hands back the whole journal as a readable file, photo links included. Deleting your account, from the Profile tab, erases everything with no delay.

For anything else, an objection to a processing operation for instance, write to us from the app's Support screen, or to the address given below. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.

GOOGLE PLAY REQUIREMENT

Deleting part of your data

You do not have to delete your Niwa account to erase what it holds. Every bonsai, every photo, every care entry and every journal entry is deleted separately, from the app, without writing to us.

  1. Open the item, then tap Delete.
  2. A bonsai or a photo goes to the Bin, which you open from the Profile tab. You have thirty days to Restore it.
  3. To erase it at once, tap Erase for good in the Bin, or Empty the bin to erase everything in one go.

A care entry or a journal entry is erased immediately, without going through the Bin. Once erasure is final, the data leaves the database with no delay, photo file included; backups still holding it are purged within seven days at most. Nothing is kept beyond that.

Your account, your email address and your preferences are untouched by these deletions: they go only with the account itself, whose procedure follows.

GOOGLE PLAY REQUIREMENT

Deleting your account and your data

You can delete your Niwa account and all the data attached to it, at any time, without going through us.

  1. In the app, open the Profile tab.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete my account.
  3. Confirm. Your collection, your journal and your photos are erased. This action is final.

Erased: your account, your bonsai, your care journal, your photos and your preferences, including whatever is still in the Bin. Database backups still holding them are purged within seven days at most. Nothing is kept beyond that: Niwa's activity places us under no legal obligation to retain the contents of your collection.

If you no longer have access to the app, write to valentin.beaussart@gmail.com from your account's email address. The request is handled within thirty days.
